I am a very recent addition to the Sacramento Valley Affiliate, initially introduced to the Susan G. Komen Foundation by chance through a family friend and Komen volunteer. I was prompted to join the Sacramento Valley Affiliate in July of 2012 when the position of Office Volunteer became available. Looking for a way to expand my involvement in the community, I gladly offered to take on the role. I began by aiding with a large organization and entry project of the Affiliate’s yearly donations, and have slowly progressed to help in other capacities. Most recently I have joined the 2013 Race for the Cure Planning Committee in the capacity of Merchandise Sales Co-Chair, and look forward to helping make that event a big success! While a 12 year resident of the Greater Sacramento Area (Granite Bay), I recently concluded four years in Denver, Colorado, studying at the University of Denver. In June of 2012, I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies (specializing in Culture, Society, and International Relations) as well as minors in both Business Administration and History. I hope to even learn to apply my education (heavily grounded in the world of non-profits) to the work I do at Komen, while donating my time to this organization whose mission I strongly believe in. It is truly amazing to realize how much of an impact this organization has on improving it’s community, and I am incredibly excited to be a part of an organization that has the ability to make such a difference.
