FROM THE DESK OF ST. JOSEPH'S MEDICAL CENTER, BREAST HEALTH OUTREACH PROGRAM
St. Joseph's Medical Center, Breast Health Outreach Program, has become a successful program in San Joaquin County to the Southeast Asian Women in the Greater Sacramento area.
Over the past three years Jou Moua, our Southeast Asian Outreach Specialist, has been the person responsible for organizing and putting on the breast health forums presented in various Southeast Asian languages. They have received a great response from the Southeast Asian women, with each of the forums ranging from 80 to 100 in attendance.
Because there is no cost to attend these breast health lunch forums, we have been very successful in getting women to register and attend.
The forums cover the basics of breast self-awareness, in addition to any breast health issues or questions the women may have in regards to breast health.
Our goal is to encourage women in making a life changing practice in regards to receiving an annual screening mammogram, which is key to "early detection".
We also credit our success to the many wonderful partnerships that were nurtured over the past few years, the medical providers, and Southeast Asian organizations in the Greater Sacramento area who have whole heartedly supported our mission.
We also want to thank the Sacramento Valley Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure for their continued support.
Without them this project would not be possible.
