Karen started volunteering for Komen Sacramento Board of Directors as the Recording Secretary in August 2009 and it is her passion for life, health, and happiness that makes her an eager advocate to join the fight against breast cancer. Karen has lost many relatives and friends to cancer and she wishes that everyone else caught in the battle has the help and support they need. Believing that it takes a community to raise the awareness of cancer prevention and detection and to win the war against this terrible disease, Karen is happy to join the Komen family.
Raised in Sacramento, California, Karen graduated from C. K. McClatchy High School in 1972. She has 35 years of civil service experience working for the State of California in a variety of human resources related assignments. Currently working at the California Department of Public Health she's proud of their mission to optimize the health and well being of the people in California. Karen brings with her a wealth of experience in working with people and performing in a team environment to achieve program goals and objectives.
Karen lives in South Land Park in Sacramento and loves to golf, garden, bike ride, dance, practice yoga, and make jewelry. She has two children, Bryan and Gina, who are local and she enjoys spending time with her four grandchildren, Eleanor, Kasey, Zackary and Justin. As Karen looks forward to retirement in the future, she plans to expose the hidden artist within and to increase her contribution to society with increased acts of kindness.
