The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation to receive 2005 Outstanding Foundation Award
Alexandria, VA - February 19, 2005 - The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) is honoring the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation for its comprehensive approach to breast cancer issues, including its tremendous communications, public education and fundraising activities. The Komen Foundation was established in 1982 by Nancy Brinker to honor the memory of her sister, Susan G. Komen, who died from breast cancer at the age of 36. In just over two decades, the Foundation has become the leading resource in the world for breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment programs.

The Foundation's advocacy role

This advocacy effort, which includes many of its 75,000 active volunteers, seeks to educate the president, Congress and other policy makers about breast cancer and what they can do to improve breast cancer policy.
