Sacramento Valley Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Awards $575,000 in Grants
SACRAMENTO, CA - The Sacramento Valley Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation today announced that it will grant over $575,000 to 16 local organizations and 20 programs for early detection, education, and supportive services related to breast health. The grant recipients will receive their funding this month, which will allow them to continue their work in the fight against breast cancer.
The more than $575,000 in funds was raised by the Sacramento Valley Affiliate's eighth annual Komen Race for the CureĀ® that took place in May 2004. Up to seventy-five percent of the funds raised at the annual Race stay in the Sacramento - area and are dedicated to the medically underserved, through breast cancer programs that are filling gaps in the community.
"We are extremely pleased to fund these organizations and are looking forward to working with them over the next year." Donna Sanderson, executive director of the Sacramento Valley Affiliate said. "All of the grant recipients share the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation's commitment to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease by advancing research, education, screening and treatment."
