Girl Scout Troop Yard Sale Benefits Komen

Eleven girls in the fifth grade at Mariemont Elementary School and Del Paso Manor Elementary School, held a garage sale for their community service project. On May 13th, families brought their items to troop leader, Karen Nesbitt's house, to price and stage and on Saturday, May 14th the scouts and a parent spent the day selling these items. They posted a large banner that read, "Girl Scout Yard Sale, All Proceeds Benefit Breast Cancer Research" and the girls all wore their Girl Scout vests or sashes to promote that it was a girl scout event. By the end of the day the girls raised $657.98. The local Komen affiliate was the beneficiary. Karen Nesbitt said "My girls firmly believe, together we can make a difference".

About Komen: Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure and launched the global breast cancer movement. Today, Komen for the Cure is the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Thanks to events like the Komen Race for the Cure, we have invested nearly $1 billion to fulfill our promise, becoming the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.
