Play Ball! The Sacramento Valley Swing(s) for the Cure®

On Sunday, July 17th, 2005, Chevron Texaco and the Sacramento River Cats hosted the 2nd annual Swing for the Cure® event in partnership with the Sacramento Valley Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

The Human Pink Ribbon on Raley FieldThe Sacramento River Cats donated portion of ticket sales for the game and the proceeds of an auction of special River Cats jerseys. Chevron contributed $3 for every person who participated in a special "human pink ribbon" formation on the field before the game. Everyone at the venue was invited to participate, and over 500 attendees flooded Raley Field.

Throughout the game, the Affiliate hosted a special Thank You reception in honor of our local sponsors, key volunteers, top ten pledge collectors, and top six team leaders for the 2005 Sacramento Komen Race for the Cure®.

In all, this year's event raised $17,500 for the Affiliate. Representatives from Chevron Texaco and the Sacramento River Cats presented Donna Sanderson, Executive Director, and Ann Herbert Novak, Board President with a check at the end of the 8th inning.

We'd like to thank everyone for coming to Swing for the Cure® to help us celebrate breast cancer survivors in our community and raise funds towards the Komen mission.

About Komen: Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure and launched the global breast cancer movement. Today, Komen for the Cure is the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Thanks to events like the Komen Race for the Cure, we have invested nearly $1 billion to fulfill our promise, becoming the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world. About the Affiliate: Led by more than 100,000 survivors and activists, Komen is the world' largest and most progressive grassroots network fighting to end breast cancer forever. We are local activists in 124 cities and communities, mobilizing more than one million friends and neighbors every year through events like the Komen Race for the Cure Series, the world's largest and most successful awareness and fundraising event for breast cancer. We are advocates at the local, state and federal level, fighting for the screening and treatment programs that save lives and the research that brings us closer to the cure.
