2005 Grant Writing & Networking Conference a Success!
On September 20, 2005, the Sacramento Valley Affiliate held its annual Grant Writing & Networking Conference. The conference provided assistance to organizations who wish to submit a grant proposal for innovative breast health and breast cancer projects for the 2006/2007 year. The conference also was an opportunity for community organizations to share what is going on in there community as far as breast health awareness. 34 participants from breast health organizations throughout the Sacramento Valley Affiliate's 17-county service area attended.
This year's conference aimed to: - Increase the knowledge and awareness of the Affiliate's funding opportunities among community healthcare organizations
- Strengthen the relationship between the Affiliate and community organizations Encourage collaboration between Sacramento Valley breast health communities
- Review key elements of successful grant writing and to how to identify and maximize project efforts for outreach and education activities.
A major discussion focus for this year's conference was our Community Needs Survey, a major part of completing our bi-annual Community Needs Assessment. Information collected during the discussion, will be very instrumental in guiding our Affiliate's activities--both grant making and fundraising--so as not to duplicate programs already in place and to focus our efforts on addressing any unmet breast cancer needs.
Our thanks to the organizations that participated in this year's conference, and to Ellen Schaefer of Group Works who facilitated discussions.
