Komen Sacramento Hosts Statewide Advocacy Event in January, 2008
The Komen Community Challenge is a dynamic nationwide 25-city campaign is to close the gaps in breast cancer research, policy and treatment and to shine a spotlight on the high breast cancer mortality rates that still exist among low-income and minority populations.
Over the next 25 years, five million Americans could be diagnosed with breast cancer - and because there are gaps in our system, this diagnosis will be deadlier for some than for others. That's wrong. We're rallying to make breast cancer a national priority, to help "Close the Gap" in funding that keeps thousands of women from receiving life-saving breast cancer care. In order to do this, we extend the Challenge to draw 25 million new people into the fold. We must - because in the next 25 years, 25 million people worldwide could be diagnosed with breast cancer.
In January, 2008 all seven California Komen affiliates will join together to make LOTS OF NOISE here in Sacramento. They're coming from San Diego, Los Angeles, Inland Empire, Orange County, Fresno and San Francisco. We'll be hosting a two-day event aimed at propelling our community into greater understanding of the Komen Promise and to encourage supporters and policy-makers alike to commit to join us on our mission to discover and deliver the cures.
Komen is recruting YOU -- all Sacramento breast cancer advocates, survivors, co-survivors, Race for the Cure supporters and participants, to join us at the State Capitol Rally! Help us proclaim the urgency of closing the gap in breast cancer research and access to care. Don't miss this opportunity to get the attention of policymakers, legislators and community leaders -- to Close the Gap!
