Cynthia Nixon to Serve as Ambassador for Susan G. Komen for the CureĀ®

DALLAS--April 15, 2008 -- Award-winning actress, Cynthia Nixon, best known for her role as Miranda on the long-running television series Sex and the City, joins Susan G. Komen for the CureĀ®, the world's largest breast cancer advocacy organization, as an Ambassador.

Nixon will share her personal experience with breast cancer, attend key events and reach millions through a series of TV and radio Public Service Announcements designed to educate people about the deadly disease and help engage them in Komen for the Cure's global breast cancer movement.

Drawing attention to the impact of the disease "Over the next 25 years, an estimated 25 million women around the world will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 10 million could die from the disease," said breast cancer survivor Hala Moddelmog, president and CEO at Komen for the Cure. "Cynthia's personal story will certainly help draw attention to the impact of the disease as she joins the global breast cancer movement and our millions of survivors and activists working daily through Susan G. Komen for the Cure to create a world without breast cancer."

Nixon won an Emmy Award for her work on Sex and the City and a 2006 Tony Award as Best Actress in a leading role for David Lindsay-Abaire's Pulitzer prize-winning play, Rabbit Hole. She stars in the upcoming Sex and the City: The Movie scheduled for release on May 30 by New Line Cinema.

Knowing your body can make all the difference "As the daughter of a breast cancer survivor, knowing my personal risk made me more aware and more empowered when I faced my own diagnosis," said Nixon. "I want to help Susan G. Komen for the Cure educate the 1.1 million women around the globe who face a diagnosis each year. Even if breast cancer doesn't run in your family -- take charge. Talk with your doctor, make healthy lifestyle choices and most importantly, know your body as that can make all the difference in the world."

In a series of intimate Web videos available for viewing at komen.org/cynthia, Nixon will share personal excerpts from her journey. Her candid dialogue serves to empower all to take action in the war on breast cancer.
