Joining the Komen Sacramento Affiliate in September, Sommer oversees the Grants, Volunteer and Education programs.
In this role, Sommer will coordinate the annual Grants program which awards funds to local breast cancer projects providing services primarily to uninsured woman. She will define a broad range of volunteer development and coordinate educational programs designed to meet the needs of Komen Sacramento’s 17-county service area.
Prior to joining Komen, Sommer worked for Vertis Communications for five years, most recently as a Media Buyer, facilitating the negotiation of advertising space in local and major publications for a number of prominent clients in the retail and corporate sectors.
Sommer holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Organizational Communications from California State University at Chico, and hopes to go back to school in the near future with hopes of completing her post graduate degree in Education.
When not furthering the mission of the Komen Affiliate, Sommer spends time with her closely-knit family. She is devoted to activities in her local church and community in many ways.
Sommer also has experience in the beauty industry, through the artistry of makeup. She has been the designated makeup artist for various events in the Sacramento and Bay areas and has supported the importance of fashion and makeup for many brides-to-be, breast cancer patients and her long list of satisfied clientele.
