Become an Advocate

For more than 25 years, the women and men of Susan G. Komen for the Cure have pioneered the breast cancer movement. Today, we make up the world's largest and most progressive grassroots network of survivors and activists, working together to end breast cancer forever.

While we're known for our support of breast cancer research and community programs, we consider sound public policy an equally worthy goal. Through Komen Champions for the CureTM, we use the power of activism to achieve important legislative objectives at federal, state and local levels. We work to cultivate and maintain strong relationships with decision-makers and community leaders, encouraging their active engagement in the breast cancer movement.

We're on a mission. Join us.

Our history as a grassroots movement demonstrates the collective power of individuals to bring about change. Add your voice to those of more than 100,000 other Komen Champions by joining our virtual advocacy forum at www.ActNowEndBreastCancer.org.

Together, we can shake the halls of power and speed our journey to a world without breast cancer.

What is Komen Champions for the CureTM?

As part of the Komen for the Cure's advocacy efforts, we established Komen Champions for the CureTM, a structured grassroots program designed to educate Congress, the President and other policy-makers about breast cancer through community involvement. Launched in the spring of 2002, Komen Champions for the CureTM was inspired by the more than 100,000 Komen volunteers who work in local communities and with their state health departments.

One more is too many – Close the Gap!

The Wall Street Journal recently highlighted the heart-wrenching story of Shirley Loewe, who was uninsured when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Shirley went to the wrong clinic and was caught in a "legal loophole" that denied Medicaid coverage for her treatment. Sadly, Shirley lost her battle with breast cancer in June.

Every woman deserves access to quality breast cancer treatment that can save her life. Surviving breast cancer should not depend on where you live, the color of your skin, or how much money you make. Please help by urging your elected officials to ensure that not one more woman has to endure what Shirley did!

America's President could save lives—but only if you ask. By taking a moment to sign the I Vote for the Cure petition, which outlines three critical goals in the fight to end breast cancer, you can let President Obama know that you expect him to make breast cancer a national priority for our country.

One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. Women are dying every day, when common-sense policies could ensure that every woman in America has access to high-quality breast health care. Take this easy step to make sure our next president hears from as many Americans as possible: we want a plan to end breast cancer forever! Join Komen’s advocacy efforts here.

This year alone, more than 180,000 American women and men over the age of 40 will be diagnosed with breast cancer, and over 40,900 will die from this devastating disease. And, this year over 24,000 young women under age 45 will also be diagnosed.
