Susan G. Komen for the Cure is about people - people who choose to do something to make a difference. With 125 Komen affiliates (both Domestic and International), over 100,000 people across the world volunteer for local Affiliates. The Sacramento Valley Affiliate is proud of our community and the work that our volunteers have done and continue to do for us. Please join us to make breast cancer awareness and education a priority for everyone in our community. Sign up to volunteer with us today! There are four general categories of volunteer opportunities:
Komen Race for the Cure®:
The Komen Sacramento Race for the Cure is our signature fundraising event for our local Affiliate, having raised $12 million since its inception in 1997. Over our Race history, we've had up to 25,000 participants for this one-day event. To pull it off, we need hundreds of volunteers like you to help us with the planning, preparation, and Race day logistics for this monumental community event. Volunteers do everything from registering Race participants and teams, data entry, Race course and refreshment monitors, and assist with survivor celebration events. We have an on-going race committee that may have open positions. Health Fairs, Expos and Special Events:
These occur throughout the calendar year and are for those interested in talking to the public and representing Komen for the Cure at public events, which may include the WNBA/Monarch’s Breast Health Awareness night, RiverCats "Swing for the Cure" event and more.
Speaker's Bureau:
As our local Affiliate increases in visibility in our community, many different organizations throughout the year invite representatives from Komen to speak or appear at an event they are hosting. Topics range from personal experiences, general history of Komen, and information on breast cancer. Additional training and education will be provided for those interested in representing Komen. Sometimes, this just involves going to an event, collecting a donation, and saying a few words about Komen. This type of volunteer opportunity is available to adults only and requires Speaker's Bureau training. .
Affiliate Office:
Throughout the year, the Affiliate has needs in the office that volunteers can help fulfill. Examples of duties would be assistance with mailing, filing, special projects and phone calls. This opportunity is open to all, but might sometimes be restricted to adult volunteers. |

Volunteer Today!
One of the core values of Susan G. Komen for the Cure is to value the "power of the individual and the dynamic force of many." This organization was literally built by volunteers, and while the Komen Sacramento Affiliate has a small staff, the heart, soul and much of the labor of running this organization comes from hundreds of individual volunteers. The grassroots nature of the organization strengthens our roots in the community as we continue to grow and to impact lives throughout the Sacramento Valley and surrounding areas.
The Sacramento Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure is a growing organization with endless potential. There are many types of committees and volunteer functions available and we welcome new volunteers.
